Good morning! Today's image is a photo of our star, Sol. The image was captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory on Wednesday. We've just passed perihelion, the point at which planet Earth reaches its closest point to the Sun. This year, perihelion occurred on January 3, and we got to within about 91.4 million miles of the star. Due to its slightly elliptical orbit, Earth will reach aphelion on July 5 at a distance of 94.5 million miles. Read more
